About Adilabad
Adilabad district is a district located in the Indian state of Telangana. It is one of the 33 districts in Telangana and is situated in the northern region of the state. Adilabad town is the administrative headquarters of the district.
Geographically, Adilabad district is bordered by Maharashtra to the north, Nizamabad district to the south, Kumaram Bheem Asifabad district to the east and Nanded district of Maharashtra to the west. The Godavari River flows through the district that dividing it into two regions i.e Northern Telangana and Southern Vidarbha.
Adilabad district has a rich historical and cultural heritage. The district has been ruled by various dynasties including the Mauryas, Satavahanas, Chalukyas, Kakatiyas and the Nizams of Hyderabad. The district has several historical monuments and places of archaeological significance.
The economy of Adilabad district is predominantly agrarian with agriculture being the main occupation of the people. Major crops grown in the district include Paddy, Cotton, Maize, Soybeans and Pulses. The district also has mineral resources such as coal, limestone and quartz.
Adilabad district is known for its natural beauty and tourist attractions. Some popular tourist destinations in the district include Kala Ashram, Basar Saraswathi Temple, Jainath Temple, Kadam Dam and Kala Ashram. The district is also home to the Kala Ashram an art village founded by the renowned artist Padma Shri Ram V. Sutar.
In terms of governance The Adilabad district is divided into three revenue divisions: Adilabad, Utnoor and Mancherial. These divisions are further divided into 18 mandals (administrative units). The district is represented in the legislative assembly by several constituencies.
